Interestingly, other video cards do not seem to be affected by this problem.
New World "sentenced" several video cards GeForce RTX 3090 produced by EVGA, but among the victims (or rather completely disabled) there are models from other manufacturers. One user noted that after launching the game, the fans of his GeForce RTX 3090 started working at 100 percent, after which a black screen was displayed on the monitor. During the second attempt to launch New World, he heard a loud bang in the area of the video card - and the video card stopped loading. A second user experienced roughly the same picture when trying to play with his EVGA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3. And the third reported that his video card was completely burned out during the game. In total, about a dozen users were affected.
The reasons for this mutual dislike between New World and the GeForce RTX 3090 can only be guessed at, but there is an assumption that the problem is in the default unlimited frame rate and heavy rendering load. The GeForce RTX 3090 is the only graphics card in the series with 24GB of GDDR6X memory, and it is likely that the New World beta is simply not optimized for that amount of memory. This leads to overheating of memory chips and GPU, in the end the video card simply dies.
Strong heating of the GeForce RTX 3090 in New World was noted by other users, but their video adapters were not affected. The solution to the problem at the moment is to limit the frame rate in the settings: when it is reduced to 60 fps, the temperature of the video card drops to a completely acceptable and safe 60 ° C. Perhaps later this "feature" of the game will be fixed with a patch, but for now the decision is in the hands of the users themselves.
