NAND flash market balance to recover in 2022

The source quoted Wallace Kou, president of flash controller company Silicon Motion Technology, on the prospects for the NAND flash market. Coe expects a balance between supply and demand in the global NAND flash market to be achieved in 2022. At the same time, the growth of supplies, if we evaluate them in terms of information volume, will remain at the level of about 30% per year.

Unlike some industry observers who expect NAND flash prices to decline starting in the fourth quarter of this year, Coe sees no signs of the oversupply needed to drive prices down. Demand for NAND flash for data centers and server applications remains robust, while demand for mobile phones will grow between the second half of the third quarter and the fourth quarter, Coe said.

Driving demand will be the introduction of UFS 3.0 flash memory modules in mid-range models, expected in 2022. Coe said some smartphone makers intend to use UFS 4.0 flash drives in flagship models slated for release in 2023.
