GeForce RTX 3060 on a GeForce RTX 3070 GPU has appeared on the web

In the database of the well-known resource TechPowerUp, new versions of the popular GeForce RTX 3060 video card have appeared. What distinguishes them from the previous ones is that they are built on a graphics processor, which is unusual for this video card, - GA104. This GPU, recall, is used in the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070, and the GeForce RTX 3060, in turn, is based on the GA106.

Apparently, Nvidia uses discarded GPUs of the older model for the younger model. This practice is not new, the same was the case with the popular GeForce RTX 2060: instead of the base TU106 GPU, there were versions on the TU104. There are no differences in the characteristics of the GeForce RTX 3060 built on GA104 and GA106, but if possible, it is better to prefer the second option - built on a rejected, albeit older, GPU: GeForce RTX 3060 on GA104 works more stable during overclocking and provides better energy consumption control. However, at the stage of purchase, it will not work to distinguish the GA104 version from the GA106 version - this can be done only by looking at the graphics processor marking. And to do this, you need to remove the cooling system (along the way, losing the warranty) and remove the thermal interface from the GPU.

Earlier it was reported about a decrease in the production of GeForce RTX 3060 in September by 50%. It is possible that Nvidia has some problems with the release of GA104, so the company transferred some of these video cards to rejected, but still quite functional GA106.
