Apple launched the "AirPods Firmware Updater" tool

Although Apple’s AirPods wireless headsets often receive firmware updates, there is no simple or intuitive way to update them. Apple has realized this because the company has developed a tool to manually update the AirPods firmware, but it is not available to everyone.

Fudge reported on Twitter that Apple has created a new tool called "AirPods Firmware Updater". As the name suggests, it can manually update the firmware of AirPods devices, including AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max.

However, this tool is not open to all users. Fudge said that Apple developed the AirPods firmware updater specifically for Apple technicians working in Apple Store retail stores or authorized repair centers. In this way, if there is a problem with a pair of AirPods, the technician can restore and update the firmware to try to solve the problem without having to replace the product.

There are currently no details on how this tool works, nor on how it connects with AirPods, because AirPods generally do not have a diagnostic port except for AirPods Max. However, this does show that Apple can improve the AirPods firmware update process, and hope that Apple will launch a consumer version upgrade tool in the future.

When there is a firmware update, AirPods users cannot do anything other than plug the AirPods into the charger, connect to the iPhone device and wait for the update to be installed. There is no sign that there is an update, and there is no sign that AirPods is currently downloading new firmware.
