CATL: The company has a total of 7,229 domestic and foreign patents that have been authorized

CATL stated on the investor platform that the company has a total of 7,229 authorized and pending domestic and foreign patents. Ningde Times stated that as of June 30, 2021, the company and its subsidiaries had a total of 3,357 domestic patents and 493 overseas patents, and a total of 3,379 domestic and overseas patents were being applied for.

In the first half of 2021, CATL’s R&D expenses were 2.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 115%, and its cumulative R&D investment exceeded 14 billion yuan. Ningde Times has 7878 R&D personnel, including 134 doctors and 1,524 masters. Their R&D capabilities cover materials research and development, product research and development, engineering design, test analysis, intelligent manufacturing, information systems, project management and other fields.

In terms of the solid-state and semi-solid battery business, CATL revealed that the company has always maintained a high degree of attention and development of technology layout for next-generation batteries and emerging technologies in the industry such as cobalt-free batteries, all-solid-state batteries, and rare-metal-free batteries.

In terms of battery waste recycling, CATL stated that relying on its subsidiary Guangdong Bangpu, the company will work with customers to create an ecological closed loop of "battery production → use → echelon utilization → recycling and resource regeneration", which can remove nickel and cobalt in waste lithium-ion batteries. Valuable metals such as manganese and lithium are processed, purified, and synthesized to produce lithium-ion battery materials such as ternary precursors so that resources such as nickel, cobalt, manganese, and lithium can be recycled.

Ningde Times stated that the company will continue to invest in research and development, maintain industry-leading technological advantages, develop high-energy-density, high-performance battery materials on this basis, optimize product design and production processes, improve production efficiency, and product yield, and achieve more High degree of automation and lower cost.
