Folding screen mobile phone shipments soar

The smartphone industry has gradually recovered. The overall sales of foldable smartphones have skyrocketed as the leading manufacturer Samsung takes the lead in price cuts.

Research and research organization DSCC estimates that this quarter (fourth quarter) shipments of foldable smartphones will reach 3.8 million units, a surge of over 450% from the same period last year, and Samsung's market share will increase to 95%.

Folding smartphones came out in 2019. After two years of flatness, Samsung has taken the lead in bargaining prices this year, and overall sales have soared by leaps and bounds. According to a DSCC survey, global foldable smartphone shipments in the third quarter broke a record of 2.6 million units, an annual increase of 480%, and shipments in the first quarter alone surpassed the results of the past year.

The main reason for the large increase in folding machine shipments came from Samsung, which accounted for 93% of the market in the third quarter. In terms of models, the Galaxy Z Flip3 accounted for up to 60% of the overall folding machine market . The second was Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3. The city accounted for 23%.

DSCC estimates that the fourth quarter shipments of foldable smartphones will reach 3.8 million units, an annual increase of 450%, and Samsung’s market share will increase to 95%; after Samsung takes the lead in reducing prices, major mobile phone manufacturers will also lower the prices of foldable phones. It is estimated that the shipment of foldable mobile phones in 2022 will increase by 132% annually to 17.5 million units.

Counterpoint predicts that next year, Samsung’s folding smartphone sales will reach 12 million to 13 million units, accounting for 74% of the market. The three land-based factories, including Xiaomi, OPPO, and Huawei, will have a combined market share of 14%. Previously, the market continued to report that Apple would launch a foldable iPhone . The news website Apple Insider quoted analysts’ forecasts and reported that Apple’s first foldable iPhone will come out in 2023 or 2024 as soon as possible. Apple is still developing and testing with the supply chain.
