Foxconn promises to improve the working and living environment of the Chennai plant in India

Hon Hai's Foxconn factory in Chennai, India, had previously erupted large-scale employee protests, causing the factory to shut down for many days. The reason for the protest was that a food poisoning incident occurred in the factory canteen, which resulted in 150 employees being admitted to the hospital.

The latest news pointed out that Hon Hai has agreed to the requirements of its employees and will increase dormitory areas, replace bathing facilities, provide drinking water, and improve the working environment of the factory and the living environment of employees. In addition, the Chennai plant will be expanded and more employees will be hired.

The plant is currently the main iPhone production plant in India. The Chennai factory has been suspended since December 18. Employees and their families initiated protests, which once blocked a local expressway. Hon Hai stated that the factory will resume production today (December 27).

Hon Hai also recently decided to increase its investment of US$350 million in a subsidiary of Foxconn in India . According to market participants, this move is to expand the production capacity of Apple's iPhone.
