Global NAND flash memory market Q3 ranking

This year, the competition among global NAND flash memory companies is very fierce. Different from the top three in the DRAM market, there are more players in the NAND flash market. In this market, Samsung Electronics has ranked first for 20 consecutive years, and SK Hynix has also increased its market share, following closely behind.

Intel, the largest semiconductor company in the United States that once ordered the global SSD (Solid-State Drive) market, sold its NAND business unit to SK Hynix in order to focus on its main business. The largest memory semiconductor company in mainland China, Yangtze Storage, is also expanding its production capacity to increase market share.

According to data from market research agency Omdia, Samsung Electronics' share of the global NAND flash memory market reached 34.5% in the third quarter of this year, maintaining first place for many years. It is followed by Kioxia (19.5%), SK Hynix (13.6%), Western Digital (13.0%), Micron (9.9%), and Intel (5.9%), etc., which have formed competition from many companies patterns.

At present, the DRAM market is basically divided by Samsung Electronics (43.9% share), SK Hynix (27.6%), and Micron (22.7%). However, in the NAND flash memory market, 6 companies have a significant share competition.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Electronics, which reached the top of the NAND flash memory market in 2002, maintained a gap of about 15 percentage points with the second-ranked Kioxia, and is expected to hold the number one position this year. So far, Samsung will set a record for the largest share of NAND flash memory for 20 consecutive years.

In addition to Samsung Electronics, the growth momentum SK Hynix in NAND flash memory market competition, the positive development of NAND business is very clear obvious.

SK Hynix’s share has increased for four consecutive quarters from 11.3% in the third quarter of last year and reached 13.6% in the third quarter of this year. This is the largest share of SK Hynix in the quarter.

SK Hynix suffered losses in the NAND flash memory business for 11 consecutive quarters starting from the fourth quarter of 2018 due to the construction of the M15 semiconductor plant in Cheongju, Chungbuk, and initial investment costs. However, in the third quarter of this year, due to production (non-defective qualified products The improvement of the ratio) and the increase in shipments have successfully realized the surplus conversion.
