IDC: In the third quarter, global wearable device shipments increased by 9%


Research organization IDC released a report on the global wearable device market for the third quarter of 2021. In the quarter, global shipments of such equipment increased by 9.9% year-on-year to 138.4 million units. Among them, the shipment volume of earphone products (including TWS true wireless earphones) increased by 26.5% .

Statistics show that in the third quarter, shipments of smartwatch products surpassed smart bracelets for the first time, becoming the second most popular category in wearable devices, with a 4.3% increase in the third quarter. Experts say that consumers desire more powerful functions, so demand is gradually shifting to watch products. Nowadays, the number of smartwatches priced at less than US$100 is equivalent to that of bracelets , and entry-level products have grown significantly in India.

In terms of brands, Apple is far ahead in wearable device shipments. Although Apple Watch shipments have dropped by 35.5%, it still ranks first overall. In the third quarter of 2021, Apple shipped 39.8 million wearable devices, accounting for 28.8% of the market , thanks to the hot sales of the AirPods series of true wireless headsets.

Samsung ranked second, and the previously released Galaxy Watch 4 series is very popular. This series of watches is equipped with Google Wear OS system, which is well received by users. Overall, Samsung shipped 12.7 million wearable devices in the third quarter, ranking second.

Xiaomi and Samsung tied for second place, with shipments of 12.7 million units. The brand's shipments in the second quarter fell by 23.8%, but it grew significantly outside of China. In addition, Xiaomi's true wireless headsets continue to occupy the market with a very high cost performance.

Huawei's wearable devices increased by 3.7% in the third quarter, but the smart bracelet/watch category fell by 5% this quarter. This achievement is mainly due to the sales of its true wireless headsets.

Indian company Imagine Marketing entered the list for the first time, ranking fifth. This product has quickly occupied the Indian market with its high cost performance. It has also launched smart watch products, which currently account for 10% of its shipments.
