In some countries and regions, the iPhone 15 Pro model may not have a physical SIM card slot

Rumors on the Brazilian website Blog do iPhone stated that, at least in some countries and regions, the iPhone 15 Pro model may not have a physical SIM card slot, but this change may happen earlier. An anonymous person told MacRumors that Apple has advised major US carriers to prepare smartphones with eSIM cards before September 2022. The person shared a seemingly legal document outlining the time frame for this initiative.

As part of the transition, it is said that some US carriers will start offering some iPhone 13 models without nano-SIM cards in the second quarter of 2022. There is no nano-SIM card in the iPhone 13 model box sold on Apple Store or Apple.com. Users can usually activate the mobile plan through eSIM by turning on the iPhone, connecting to the Wi-Fi network, and following the instructions on the screen.

In view of the so-called September 2022 deadline, it is possible that Apple will cancel the physical SIM card slot from some iPhone 14 series models, instead of some iPhone 15 models as originally rumored, but there is no firm news yet.

eSIM is a digital SIM card that allows users to activate mobile phone plans without using a nano-SIM card. It is worth noting that eSIM services are not available in all countries and regions, so iPhones with SIM card slots may still be available in some markets. However, the adoption situation is rapidly expanding. There are more than 100 operators worldwide providing eSIM services, and more operators plan to launch support in 2022, including the British Three and New Zealand Vodafone operators.

Apple iPhone 13 series models already support multiple eSIM profiles, allowing users to digitally subscribe to multiple mobile phone plans and switch between them. This feature may pave the way for the removal of SIM card slots in specific countries and regions.

Former Apple Design Director Jony Ive (Jony Ive) once envisioned the iPhone as a "single glass plate", and the removal of the SIM card slot would be another step towards a seamless design, and in the process Improve water resistance. Removing the SIM card slot will also free up some valuable internal space in the iPhone.
