Meizu launched the Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro smartphones in March 2021, promising that the smartphones will not contain malware and display any kind of advertising. However, in November of this year, the company broke its promise by launching ads on the Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro.
Meizu was fined about $ 4,000 by the Zhuhai Market Oversight and Management Authority for shortly running ads on Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro smartphones, which should not have them.
According to the source, banner ads and opening full-screen ads in the standard Flyme Weather application appeared due to a software glitch, which the company eliminated several hours later, but the punishment was still followed.
After this incident, Meizu deleted messages on social networks, which say that there are no and will not be ads on its smartphones. In response to a question, Meizu explained that the company cannot adhere to this position regarding its future products, as this business decision is not viable.
Consequently, the Meizu 18 and Meizu 18 Pro will remain the only Meizu smartphones to offer a pure OS with no ads.
