SA: Microsoft ranks among the world's top tablet manufacturers for the first time in Q4 2021


Today, Strategy Analytics released a report saying that to take advantage of people's demand for mobile office equipment, Microsoft launched a large-scale Surface series update products, and for the first time among the world's top tablet computer manufacturers.

Strategy Analytics reports that most manufacturers are frustrated in acquiring components to meet continued high demand. In Q4 2021, supply constraints have reduced global tablet shipments by 25% year-on-year.

The report shows that for the whole of 2021, global tablet PC shipments will drop by 3% to 183.1 million units.

  • In Q4 2021, Apple's iPad shipments (wholesale) fell 22% year-on-year to 14.6 million units, and its global market share rose 1 percentage point to 31%, leading the global tablet market.
  • Samsung is still the largest tablet maker for Android, but its tablet shipments fell by 28% in Q4 2021 to 7.3 million units; its market share fell by 0.7 percentage points to 16% in the same period.
  • Among Android vendors, Amazon was the best performer due to its deep holiday season discounts; shipments fell 13% to 5.8 million units and market share rose 1.7 percentage points to 12%.
  • Lenovo's tablet shipments broke nine consecutive quarters of growth, falling 17% to 4.6 million units in Q4 2021; market share rose 1 percentage point year-on-year to 10%.
  • For the first time, Microsoft was among the top five tablet manufacturers in the world, with its tablet shipments totaling 1.9 million units, up just 1% year-on-year; its market share increased by 1 percentage point to 4%.
