Sources say that Meta has stopped developing new VR and AR operating systems

According to reports, two people familiar with the matter said today that Facebook’s parent company Meta Platforms has stopped developing a new software operating system. The system is mainly designed for its virtual reality (VR) equipment and the upcoming augmented reality (AR) glasses.

The operating system project has been in progress for several years, involving hundreds of employees. Analysts said that the project was shelved, marking a setback in Meta’s attempt to control its Oculus VR headsets and future efforts to augment or mixed reality (MR) devices with the underlying software.
