Apple: 50% of Mac buyers in Q2 of fiscal 2022 are new users

Since the launch of the first Apple Silicon Mac in November 2020, Apple's Mac sales have continued to grow strongly. Apple's Mac revenue hit $10.4 billion in the second quarter of fiscal 2022, up from $9.1 billion a year earlier.

On an earnings call today covering the second quarter of fiscal 2022, Apple CFO Luca Maestri said the company has been expanding its installed base. Mac upgrades set a quarterly record in March, with half of all Mac buyers in the quarter being new to the product.

Apple's Macs grew strongly despite supply chain constraints. Apple has struggled to deliver some high-end MacBook Pro models on time, with some users seeing significant delays in shipping estimates.

Recently, Apple introduced the Mac Studio with the M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips. The M1 Ultra is Apple's most powerful Apple Silicon chip to date and is made up of two M1 Max pieces combined.
