Chip company Ampere Computing files for U.S. IPO, founded by former Intel president

The chip company founded by former Intel president Renee James, said on Monday (April 11) that it had confidentially filed for a U.S. IPO, Reuters reported. Founded in 2018, Ampere Computing is one of many companies aiming to challenge Intel and AMD. With more remote work needs under the epidemic, the demand for chips has surged, driving the continuous growth trend of the chip market. Last year, chip-making giant GlobalFoundries went public in the United States.

Founded in 2018, Ampere is one of many companies aiming to challenge Intel and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD.O), the dominant player in the booming data center and cloud computing chip market. During the pandemic, demand for chips has surged as people have all started working remotely. Last year, chip-making giant GlobalFoundries Inc (GFS.O) went public in the United States.

However, the U.S. IPO market has slowed due to saturated investor demand and high volatility due to unfavorable macroeconomic conditions, leading companies to delay IPOs or merge with blank-check companies. Founder Renee James, Ampere's chief executive, also sits on the boards of Citigroup Inc (CN) and Oracle Corp (ORCL.N).
