China: The average monthly traffic of China households reached 15.2GB

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has now released the economic operation of the communications industry from January to August 2022. From January to August, the telecommunication business revenue totaled 1,072.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.2%. The total amount of telecommunications business calculated at constant prices in the previous year increased by 21.7% year-on-year.

Data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that mobile Internet traffic has grown rapidly. From January to August, the cumulative mobile Internet traffic reached 168.4 billion GB, a year-on-year increase of 18.6%.

As of the end of August, the number of mobile Internet users reached 1.459 billion, a net increase of 43.37 million over the end of the previous year. In August, the average mobile Internet access (DOU) per household reached 15.2GB / household·month, an increase of 10.7% year-on-year, and 0.48GB / household·month higher than the end of the previous year.

In terms of mobile phone users, the scale of mobile phone users has increased steadily, and 5G users account for nearly 30%. As of the end of August, the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 1.678 billion, a net increase of 34.68 million over the end of the previous year. Among them, 5G mobile phone users reached 492 million, a net increase of 138 million compared with the end of the previous year, accounting for 29.4% of the mobile phone users, an increase of 7.8 percentage points compared with the end of the previous year.

From January to August, the overall operation of the communications industry was stable. The revenue of the telecommunications business increased steadily, and the total amount of telecommunications business maintained rapid growth; new progress was made in the construction and application of new infrastructures such as 5G, gigabit optical networks and the Internet of Things, and the scale of "things" connections in mobile networks exceeded that of "people" connections for the first time; Emerging businesses such as cloud computing have grown rapidly, and new momentum for industry development has been continuously enhanced.

Overall operation

Revenues from the telecommunications business grew steadily, and total telecommunications business maintained double-digit growth. From January to August, the telecommunication business revenue totaled 1,072.1 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 8.2%. Fixed Internet broadband business revenue maintained steady growth. From January to August, the Internet broadband business income of the three basic telecommunications companies was 161.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.8%, accounting for 15.1% of the telecommunications business revenue, a year-on-year increase of 0.2 percentage points, and driving the telecommunications business revenue to increase by 1.5 percentage points. percentage point.

Mobile data traffic business revenue grew at a low rate. From January to August, the three basic telecommunications companies achieved a mobile data traffic revenue of 439 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%, accounting for 41% of the telecommunications business revenue, driving the telecommunications business revenue to increase by 0.2 percentage points.

Income from emerging businesses grew rapidly. The three basic telecommunications companies are actively developing emerging businesses such as IPTV, Internet data centers, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. From January to August, revenue from emerging businesses totaled 207.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 34.1%, accounting for 19.4%, driving a 5.3 percentage point increase in telecom business revenue. Among them, cloud computing and big data revenue increased by 130.3% and 56.4% year-on-year respectively, data center business revenue increased by 15.5% year-on-year, and IoT business revenue increased by 24.5% year-on-year.

Voice business revenue continued to decline. From January to August, the three basic telecommunications companies completed fixed voice and mobile voice business revenue of 13.9 billion yuan and 76.62 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 10.2% and 3.7% respectively, and the two together accounted for 8.4% of the telecom business revenue, accounting for 8.4% of the total. It was down 1.2 percentage points year on year.

Development of telecom users

The scale of fixed broadband access users grew steadily, and the number of gigabit users continued to expand. As of the end of August, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications companies reached 571 million, a net increase of 35.23 million over the end of the previous year. Among them, the number of fixed Internet broadband access users with an access rate of 100Mbps and above reached 536 million, accounting for 93.8% of the total number of users, representing an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared with the end of the previous year; fixed Internet broadband access users with an access rate of 1000Mbps and above. The number of households reached 70.55 million, a net increase of 35.96 million over the end of the previous year, accounting for 12.4% of the total number of users.

The scale of mobile phone users has steadily increased, with 5G users accounting for nearly 30%. The number of cellular IoT users surpassed that of mobile phone users for the first time, and the number of IPTV users increased steadily. As of the end of August, the three basic telecommunications companies had developed 1.698 billion cellular IoT end users, a net increase of 300 million over the end of the previous year. The number of cellular IoT end users representing "things" connections in mobile network connection terminals exceeded the number representing "people" for the first time. "The number of connected mobile phone users has reached 50.3%. The total number of IPTV (Internet TV) users reached 370 million, a net increase of 21.9 million over the end of the previous year.

Use of telecommunications services

The volume of mobile phone calls grew at a low rate, and the growth rate of revenue from mobile SMS services increased slightly. From January to August, outgoing calls from mobile phones reached 1.52 trillion minutes, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%; fixed-line calls reached 55.74 billion minutes, a year-on-year decrease of 11.1%. From January to August, the national mobile short message business volume increased by 1.7% year-on-year, and the mobile short message business revenue increased by 1.5% year-on-year, the growth rate dropped by 0.4 percentage points and increased by 0.7 percentage points from January to July respectively.

Communication Ability

Gigabit fiber broadband network coverage and service capabilities continued to improve. As of the end of August, the number of Internet broadband access ports nationwide reached 1.049 billion, a net increase of 31.45 million over the end of the previous year. Among them, the number of optical fiber access (FTTH/O) ports reached 1 billion, a net increase of 41.62 million over the end of the previous year, and the proportion increased from 94.3% at the end of the previous year to 95.5%. As of the end of August, the number of 10G PON ports with gigabit network service capabilities reached 12.14 million, a net increase of 4.282 million over the end of the previous year.

5G network construction is accelerated. As of the end of August, the total number of 5G base stations reached 2.102 million, accounting for 19.8% of the total number of mobile base stations, an increase of 5.5 percentage points from the end of the previous year. Among them, 677,000 new 5G base stations were built from January to August.

Regional Development

The penetration rate of 100M and above access users in the central region is slightly ahead, and the gigabit user in the eastern region develops rapidly. As of the end of August, the penetration rates of 100Mbps and above fixed broadband access users in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions were 93.6%, 94.8%, 93.3%, and 93.8% respectively. The broadband access users with an access rate of 1000Mbps and above reached 36.65 million, 14.651 million, 17.55 million, and 1.69 million respectively, accounting for 15.1%, 10.3%, 11.6%, and 5% of the total fixed broadband access users in the region.

The 5G construction and user ratio in the eastern region are leading. As of the end of August, the number of 5G base stations in the eastern, central, western and northeastern regions reached 1.017 million, 444,000, 511,000, and 130,000, respectively, accounting for 22.1%, 19.2%, 17.2%, and 18.5% of the total number of mobile phone base stations in the region. %. 5G mobile phone users reached 218.97 million, 114.61 million, 126.76 million, and 32.08 million respectively, accounting for 30.1%, 29.6%, 28.6%, and 27% of the total mobile phone users in the region.

The growth rate of mobile Internet access traffic in the central region leads the way, and the DOU value of some western provinces ranks among the top in the country. From January to August, the mobile Internet access traffic in the eastern, central, western, and northeastern regions reached 71.61 billion GB, 38.03 billion GB, 50.1 billion GB, and 8.7 billion GB respectively, a year-on-year increase of 18.5%, 20%, 19%, and 12.4%. The average mobile Internet access (DOU) per household in the five provinces of Tibet, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Hainan, and Yunnan in August exceeded 20GB / household·month; the difference between the highest and the lowest DOU value in each province was 19.9GB / household·month, the difference The value increased by 5.1GB / household·month compared with the same period last year.
