Huawei's patent for wireless charging equipment for electric vehicles announced

With the continuous development of electric vehicles, related technologies are also making rapid progress. Today, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.'s patent for "vehicle charging equipment for electric vehicles and systems and methods for wireless charging of electric vehicles" was published.

According to the patent application, the current electric vehicle charging technology can generally be divided into onboard charging (OBC), off-board charging, and wireless charging (WC). This patent provides a solution to the problem of low integration of traditional wireless charging and traditional onboard charging systems.

The patent abstract shows that the patent is an onboard charging device for electric vehicles, and the onboard charging device exhibits higher power density at a significantly reduced cost. For the specific configuration of on-board charging equipment, it includes:

  • Mains input, including power factor correction (PFC) converter
  • Mains side DC/AC converter
  • Transformer with mains side coil and battery side coil
  • Battery side AC/DC converter
  • Battery connector
  • One or more bypass switches for electrically connecting the mains side converter to the battery side converter when closed.

Among them, the transformer is used for magnetic coupling to the TX pad of an external wireless power transmitter (WPT), so that the mains side coil and the battery side coil receive power. When the bypass switch is closed and the transformer is magnetically coupled to the WPT, power is delivered to the battery connector through the battery side converter and the utility side converter.
