Apple fined another $19 million in Brazil for iPhones

A Brazilian court on Thursday imposed a fine of 100 million reais (about 136 million yuan) on Apple and ruled that Apple's new iPhones sold in Brazil must be equipped with battery chargers. The lawsuit, filed by an association of Brazilian borrowers, consumers, and taxpayers, accuses Apple of abusive behavior by selling its flagship products without chargers.

A court in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo ruled against Apple on Thursday.

The court said in its judgment, it is clear that the defendant, on the grounds of green environmental protection, forced consumers to purchase the charger adapter previously supplied with the product.

Apple said that it will appeal the decision. Previously, Apple argued that the purpose of not sending chargers was to reduce carbon emissions.
