Omdia: Strong demand for Apple's iPhone 14 Pro series helps push up LTPO-AMOLED shipments

Omdia released a report that by the end of 2022, LTPO-AMOLED for smartphones will grow by 94% year-on-year, and in the sluggish smartphone display panel market, shipments in 2023 will Maintain a year-on-year growth rate of 25%.

The report pointed out that in 2022, the demand for smartphone display panels will drop to 1.425 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 18%. Mobile phone panel shipments suffered a double blow.

In the smartphone display panel market, low-temperature polysilicon LTPO-AMOLED (flexible) with flexible substrates is expected to increase significantly to 148 million in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 94%; while rigid and flexible low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) AMOLEDs will drop to 440 million, down 19% year-on-year; TFT LCD will drop 836 million, down 26% year-on-year.

Omdia analysts said that strong demand for the iPhone 14 Pro series, which uses low-power LTPO-AMOLED and offers longer battery life and the added value of an off-screen display, will help push up LTPO-AMOLED shipments.

Talking about 2023, Omdia expects the smartphone display panel market to increase slightly to 1.462 billion units, a year-on-year increase of 3%. Total TFT LCD shipments are at 816 million units, down 2% year-on-year; total LTPS-AMOLED shipments are expected to increase to 460 million units, up 4% year-on-year; only LTPO-AMOLED shipments are expected to grow to 186 million units, an increase of 25% year-on-year.
