Redmi Note 8 officially confirmed by Lu Weibing

Redmi's General Manager confirms the Redmi Note 8 is coming soon. A couple of Redmi fans asked Lu Weibing, Redmi's General Manager, if the Redmi Note 8 is in the works and when should we expect it. To our surprise, Weibing answered, albeit vaguely.

He confirmed that the Redmi Note 8 is coming soon enough and it will be stronger than the next door, as per Google translate. Perhaps what he meant is that it's going to crush the competition or it's a major improvement over its predecessor. Either way, it's good to know that one of Redmi's most successful lineups is getting an upgrade real soon. Redmi Note 8 is in works and will be powerful, claims Lu Weibing

Redmi, after splitting from its parent company Xiaomi earlier this year, launched its much anticipated Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro smartphones. Now, the company’s General Manager has confirmed that Redmi has started working on Redmi Note 8 series phones.

Lu Weibing, Vice President of Xiaomi and General Manager of Redmi has said that the upcoming Redmi Note 8 smartphone will be powerful than its predecessor. Earlier, he had claimed that Redmi will be the first to launch a smartphone powered by MediaTek Helio G90T processor.

This has led to the speculations that the Redmi Note 8 will be the smartphone from the company to be powered by the Helio G90T chipset. The company is also working on a 64 MP camera smartphone and the same technology could also be used in the Redmi Note 8.

The MediaTek Helio G90T is the more powerful version of the two processors in MediaTek’s new Helio G90 from the G-series of chipsets. It has 8 processors – 2 x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.05GHz and 6 x Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2GHz.

It has an ARM Mali-G76 3EEMC4 processor clocked at 800MHz. It supports up to 10GB of RAM and UFS 2.1 and eMMC 5.1 storage. There’s also an integrated Cat-12 LTE WorldMode modem and Bluetooth 5.0 too. The processor also boasts additional features like HyperGaming Technology, Dual Wakeup word for AI assistants, support for displays with a 90Hz refresh rate, and AI features for the camera.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi has scheduled an event on 7th August in China which is related to the upcoming 64 MP camera smartphone. It’s possible that the company will showcase the technology behind the 64 MP camera phone and the actual launch of the device will take place a few months later.

Unfortunately, Weibing has not yet shared any details about the upcoming smartphone and as Redmi is expected to launch a handset with a 64MP camera sensor this month, Redmi Note 8 will presumably carry the aforementioned optic unit. Redmi has been teasing the prowess of its 64MP camera smartphone for quite some time and as Redmi Note 8 will be the next big entry to the brand’s smartphone lineup, we can expect it to feature this CMOS unit. Again, it has not been confirmed yet but the Redmi Note 8 could feature Samsung’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP sensor. The sensor comes with pixel-merging Tetracell technology and a remosaic algorithm. The camera sensor delivers 16MP images in low-light environments, with pixel binning technology to increase light. The sensor is also backed by real-time HDR of up to 100-decibels for more detailed colours.

Apart from the camera sensor, the handset could also feature the brand’s fast charging technology. Unfortunately, we don’t have any other details available with us at the moment. However, we won’t have to wait for long as the Redmi Note 8 launch seems to be just around the corner. Stay tuned in for more updates.
