The Huawei MediaPad M7 could bring the punch-hole camera to tablets

It looks like Huawei has another tablet in the works, if a newly leaked image is to be believed, and it's bringing something a little out of the ordinary to the market – a punch-hole notch for a selfie camera.

Images procured by 91mobiles show what we think is the Huawei MediaPad M7, codenamed Marx inside Huawei, and set to be available in blue or silver.

Besides that punch-hole notch in the corner of the display, the tablet also appears to have a dual-lens camera around the back, and is going to come with support for Huawei's very own M-Pen stylus.

In terms of upgrades over the MediaPad M6, it looks like the bezels have been made thinner, and the fingerprint sensor has been moved under the display. It's not immediately clear if the 3.5mm audio jack has been kept.

What we don't have yet is much in the way of specifics on the specs, but it's very likely that the tablet will show up with the latest Kirin 990 processor on board. As for a launch date, MWC 2020 is a good bet, at the end of February.

Of course big question marks remain over the sort of software that the MediaPad M7 might come with, considering the ongoing friction between the US and China (and Huawei). It may carry a Google-free variation on Android, like the Huawei Mate 30.

A lot can change between now and February though, so if the US does decide to ease some of the restrictions it's placed on business between US companies and Huawei, then the full and regular version of Android could be back on the table.

We could certainly use some more top-tier Android tablets to take on the might of the iPad – besides the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, there's not much to pick from.

Huawei's Honor to launch Android smartphone in India this year

Chinese smartphone brand Honor is planning to launch an Android-based handset in India by the end of this year, despite a ban on its parent firm Huawei for the purchase of software and hardware components from US companies.

Besides, Huawei's sub-brand is focussing on the deployment of internet of things (IoT) technology.

Honor India President Charles Peng said, we are going to launch Honor 9X by the end of this year in India. It will be on Android. Any android phone can be mirrored with an Honor smart screen. We have always been thankful to our US partners for their support.

Honor has come with its operating system HarmonyOS after the US government announced a ban on supplies of components and software by American companies to Huawei. It recently unveiled the world's first HarmonyOS based product Honor Vision.

The company also has plans to officially launch and start selling Honor Vision smart television in India from the first quarter of 2020. It can be connected to Android-based Honor smartphones to access content on the television.

The company is also in talks with leading video entertainment companies to support Honor Vision before it is launched in India.

Peng said the company is now going to expand its offering in India with a focus on the deployment of internet of things (IoT) technology.

Peng said, Honor has developed an IoT product strategy for all its subsequent product launches called 1 8 N where '1' signifies smartphones, '8' signifies Honor products such as Honor Vision, Honor Watch, Honor laptops, Honor bands, Honor glasses, and so on. 'N' signifies the ecosystem partner products covering mobile offices, smart homes, sports and health, audio-visual entertainment, and smart travel products. All the products will be made available in India gradually and all the devices will be controlled by one device that is a smartphone.

When asked about the operating system the company will use in laptops, Peng said it will be based on consumer's choice and the firm will also push for an open-source operating system when it is launched.

Some of the other devices that Honor is planning to launch in India this fiscal are smart bands and smartwatch which will be based on Huawei's own operating system.

Peng said, we have already started building an app ecosystem for the HarmonyOS but we will focus on apps available on the Android ecosystem. Our Android-based smartphones can be connected with HarmonyOs and the apps can be accessed on other devices as well.
