Microsoft unveils new Windows logo and Office icons

Microsoft has refreshed the logo and icon designs of many of its apps. Over 100 of the company’s app icons have been modified in terms of colors, materials, and finishes. The redesign follows Microsoft launching new logos for its Office Suite last year, and an update to the Microsoft Edge browser logo in November.

These changes form part of Microsoft’s Fluent Design principles, which endeavor to modernize Windows apps, while also creating more coherency across the range.

Microsoft said its designers are collaborating internally in an “open source” way to address the operating system’s outdated logos.

The new designs now appear to be more consistent when observed as a whole.
