MIUI 12 update rolling out for all the devices in Redmi Note 9 series

All the devices in the Chinese Redmi Note 9 series came with Android 10-based MIUI 12 and expecting Android 11. Now the company is interested in updating those devices as soon as possible. The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G has just gotten MIUI 12.5 update based on Android 11 in China. For now, it’s a closed beta update, but it’s just a matter of time until the company rolls the update for more devices.

MIUI 12.5 brings many visual changes and improvements. The company expects to roll out MIUI 12.5 for most of its smartphones by the end of Q1 2021. The Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G probably will be one of the first to get the stable release. Xiaomi opened beta registration for Android 11 update on the Note 9 Pro 5G in China. Now, users who have opted for the beta program are getting MIUI 12.5.5 closed beta release.

These builds are not recommended for users who have the device as their daily drivers. After all, closed betas may come carried with bugs and issues. The company expects users to collect and provide feedback based on their usage. Therefore, it can work on improvements and bug fixes before deploying the update in the stable channel, which covers everyone. The company will sort out all the issues within MIUI 12.5. For now, users can only hope that their phones are among the first to receive MIUI 12.5 that in many cases will bring an Android 11 update.

Unfortunately, all the other regional variants of this smartphone began to get the update but the Indian model did not receive it up until now. Even now, the build (V12.0.1.0.QJCINXM) is in the Stable Beta phase, and hence, it is being only seeded out to select users in the country.

Redmi 7A, Redmi 8A

Redmi 7A smartphones in India are said to be receiving the MIUI 12 update now. Users are sharing screenshots of getting the update on Twitter, and this update appears to include the December 2020 Android security patch. This is probably the last big update for the Redmi 7A as it is not eligible for Android 11. Alongside the Redmi 7A, the Redmi 8A units in China and EEA (European Economic Area) are also reportedly getting the MIUI 12 update.

The changelog as seen in the screenshots suggests that the latest MIUI 12 update for the Redmi 7A brings along the December 2020 Android security patch. It also optimizes animations in selected scenes and full-screen gestures on the lock screen alarm page will be ignored after the update. Swiping down from the upper left corner will open notifications shade and swiping down from the upper right corner will open the control center. The update will close the control center when an incoming call arrives and the landscape mode layout for the control center has also been optimized.

Redmi 7A latest update brings brightness and color improvements for wallpapers and fixes an issue where the notifications shade wasn't displaying correctly in dark mode.

Redmi 8A has also started receiving the MIUI 12 update in China and EEA regions, GizmoChina reports. The Xiaomi Firmware Updater page suggests that this is the stable beta version, and the firmware model for the China units is MIUI 12 V12.0.1.0.QCPCNXM and for the EEA units is MIUI 12

V12.0.1.0.QCPEUXM. The Redmi 8A is also not eligible for Android 11 and this would likely be the last big update for the phone. There is no clarity on when users in India will start receiving the update, but now that it has started rolling out in China and EEA, it should begin rollout in other regions soon.
