Lidl launches a € 70 smartphone

Lidl has just announced the launch of a € 70 smartphone for the Spanish market. The Gigaset GS110 relies primarily on its price to appeal to consumers. Its technical sheet is obviously very modest.

In 2020, Lidl launched several times in the marketing of connected products. Thus, the German retail chain kindly went to tease Apple in several areas, starting with the wireless headphone market. The brand launched its first wireless headphones for less than € 20 in September 2020 and another model featuring the design of AirPods exactly followed in October 2020.

Then, Lidl offered its own Apple Watch at € 39.99 before slashing the prices of lamps, sockets, hubs and other connected objects with Lidl Smart Home in December 2020. At the start of 2021, the company is continuing its offensive by announcing on its Spanish site the launch of a smartphone at 70 € .

The Gigaset GS110 , manufactured by a subsidiary of Siemens, relies above all on its attractive price to appeal to consumers. And obviously, this argument hit the mark since the device is already out of stock on Lidl's Spanish site. The product sheet has also been withdrawn.

As you can imagine, at this price one should not expect a lightning of war. This smartphone offers the union minimum with a 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal memory, an ARM Spreadtrum SC9863 Octa-core processor, and a 6.1 ″ IPS LCD screen in HD definition . Then there is a 3000 mAh battery. Regarding the photo component, it will be necessary to count on a main sensor of 8 Mp with autofocus and a 5 Mp sensor at the front. The device runs Android 9.0 Pie Go edition and also offers facial recognition.

You will understand, it will be rather complicated to play Fortnite , Call of Duty Mobile or other greedy titles on this Gigaset GS110. Its technical characteristics will be enough to run some popular applications like Messenger, Gmail or Facebook. Moreover, it will be better to opt for the lighter versions of these apps, such as Facebook Lite , Messenger Lite or Gmail Go . These versions have the advantage of consuming less RAM and mobile data, and also take up less space on internal storage.

For the time being, Lidl has not given any information concerning the marketing of the Gigaset GS110 in France.
