Sony WF-1000XM4 leaked with design overhaul shown from the WF-1000XM3

The WF-1000XM3 dovetailed the WH-1000XM3, which Sony has since replaced with the WH-1000XM4. There has been no sight of a successor to the WF-1000XM3 though, despite its release in July 2019. However, The Walkman Blog has discovered a photo on Reddit that may well be Sony's next pair of high-end TWS earbuds. Posted by u/Key_Attention4766, the photo is supposedly of the 'packaging box sleeve of the WF-1000XM4'. While the poster has not provided a full look at the box, the photo does show the reputed design of the WF-1000XM4.

Unfortunately, neither The Walkman Blog nor we have verified the picture. The WF-1000XM4 branding looks slightly off, but the Sony logo seems correct. If this picture is legitimate, then it would mean that Sony has abandoned the WF-1000XM3's design. This is not necessarily a bad thing, in our opinion, as the earbuds are some of the largest on the market.

Incidentally, the WF-1000XM4 looks like the WF-XB700, which Sony released last year. The design shown here looks smaller though, while retaining the WF-1000XM3's black and gold design. Additionally, it seems that the WF-1000XM4 has memory ear tips, another change from the WF-1000XM3.

It remains unclear when Sony plans to release a successor to the WF-1000XM3. We cannot find any reference to WF-1000XM4 on regulatory bodies, such as the FCC. Hence, it seems that Sony is probably several months away from announcing the WF-1000XM4.
