Samsung launches a wireless keyboard that fits DeX

Samsung's DeX platform has been in existence since its launch with the Galaxy S8 in 2017, allowing select Samsung phones and tablets to display a desktop-like interface on top of the Android system with framed apps. Although it received new features and updates with later releases of phones, it has not yet become the real alternative to the desktop as it was offered by Samsung at the beginning.

There are a few hardware accessories aimed at making the DeX platform more accessible and useful, such as the discontinued DeX Station, but there is now a new wireless keyboard designed for this feature.

The Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500 was just listed via the company's Levant website, possibly before it was launched in more regions.

The new wireless keyboard is available in white or black, with Chiclet laptop-like keys. The wireless keyboard looks similar to Apple's Magic Keyboard.

And like some other Bluetooth keyboards and mice, the Samsung Smart Keyboard Trio 500 can keep three saved connections, so it doesn't need to re-pair every time you want to switch devices.

Samsung has also added three shortcut keys (the secondary function via the F1, F2, and F3 keys), which can open a specific application when pressed.

The shortcut functions only work across smartphones and tablets from Galaxy with the One UI 3.1 update released in March 2021, and the F12 key can start DeX mode with one click.

Samsung did not share many specifications for the Smart Keyboard Trio 500 keyboard, except that it weighs 412.3 grams, uses Bluetooth 5.0, and measures 280.4 x 127.4 x 15.4 mm (width x height x depth).

The wireless keyboard also requires two AAA batteries for power, and there are no rechargeable battery cells here.

And next week, Samsung is holding a new Galaxy Unpacked event as it plans to unveil its most powerful Galaxy device to date.

The company is expected to announce two laptops and possibly a new tablet, as well as the possibility of launching some new accessories at this event, such as the new wireless keyboard.
