The Chinese brand ZTE has introduced its new top models Axon 30 Ultra and Axon 30 Pro, which will go high-end from more established manufacturers. Expect nothing more than the maximum equipment supported by the Snapdragon 888, support for 5G networks, AMOLED displays, fast charging, and multiple high-resolution cameras.
ZTE Axon 30 Ultra 5G
Currently, the most powerful smartphone from ZTE is the Axon 30 Ultra 5G, a more powerful successor to the recently tested ZTE Axon 20 5G. The 6.67-inch double-curved AMOLED display supports up to 144Hz refresh rate, as well as 90 and 120Hz modes. Quite surprisingly, it is not possible to activate the basic 60Hz mode. The panel offers a 300Hz touch sampling rate, has Full HD + resolution, supports HDR10 + and its colors cover 100% of the DCI-P3 color space. Gorilla Glass 5 provides protection against scratches.
The display selfie has a resolution of 16 MPx, the back is visually dominated by a photo module with four cameras. The phone uses a 64MPx IMX686 photo chip from Sony (F1.6) as the main sensor. It is complemented by a second 64MPx camera (35mm. F1.9) and another 64MPx wide with a 120 ° shot of the scene. The fourth to the party is a periscope 8MPx telephoto lens with 5 × optical zoom. The maximum resolution of recorded videos is 8K with 30 fps.
The computing power is provided by Snapdragon 888 with 8 / 16GB of RAM and 256GB or up to 1TB of storage. The tightly integrated 4,600mAh battery supports 66W wired fast charging. The equipment includes support for 5G networks, as well as Wi-Fi 6E and NFC. The phone will be offered with Android 11 and the graphic superstructure MyOS 11. In China, the basic model (8/256 GB) will cost, after recalculation, CZK 15,500, with the maximum equipment it will cost CZK 22,000. However, for European prices, at least VAT will have to be added.
ZTE Axon 30 Pro 5G
If cameras are not so important to you, you may also like the simultaneously introduced ZTE Axon 30 Pro 5G. The used display has the same basic parameters, but this time it is straight AMOLED with support for a maximum of 120Hz refresh rate and 360Hz touch sampling rate. There are two 64MPx sensors on the back, leaving the basic Sony IMX682 photo chip complete with a wide-angle camera, which will (not) be helped by a 5MPx macro and a 2MPx depth camera. We see the biggest loss in the missing zoom lens.
The performance page is not significantly lacking, although you will have to settle for smaller memories. Performance is still provided by Snapdragon 888, the basic version of the phone gets 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory. The battery capacity has dropped to 4,200 mAh, the maximum charging power this time is 55 watts. And again, just over the cable, wireless charging is not considered. And there is another distinctive feature between the two phones. You will find "Axon" branding on the back cover of the Pro version.
The basic model with 6GB RAM and 128GB memory will cost about 10 thousand CZK, the version with double memories will become more expensive by about two thousand. Even here, however, VAT is not included in the prices. Availability in Europe is very realistic for both phones, but ZTE has not yet confirmed any exact schedule.
