KT preparing for the 6G era with 5G communication power saving technology

At the 5G-Advanced Workshop hosted by 3GPP, a mobile communication standardization technology cooperation organization, KT announced that it had proposed a power-saving technology for 5G networks for sustainable ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management of telecommunication companies.

5G-Advanced is the name of the next 5G technology set by 3GPP. At this workshop, KT announced the evolution of 5G eMBB (Enhanced Mobile Broadband), such as artificial intelligence (AI) power consumption control efficiency technology, indoor coverage improvement, and business-to-business (B2B) transactions. Specialized techniques were introduced.

On the 28th, KT expected that these technologies would significantly reduce the power consumption of 5G network facilities, thereby reducing carbon emissions and have a positive effect on ESG management in the telecommunication industry. It is expected to be used as an important basic technology for the commercialization of 6G, a next-generation network.

KT plans to lead technology standardization by presenting standards and directions and development visions from the initial stage of standardization of 5G-Advanced technology with world-class telecommunication companies such as NTT Docomo, Vodafone, Orange, and AT&T.

“5G-Advanced and 6G technologies will focus on maximizing communication performance as well as energy efficiency,” said Lee Jong-sik, head of the KT Convergence Technology Institute’s infrastructure research center.
