Adidas' new wireless headphones will charge in sunlight

Adidas kicked off its foray into audio with its RPT-01 wireless sports headphones 2020 to rave reviews.

The RPT-01, type headband, was created thinking about staying and giving comfort during sports routines. The successors of these hearing aids follow the same line, but with an important added value: charging via light. Not just solar, any light. The Adidas RPT-02 SOL is still in development, but they promise solar charging for an "eternal reproduction".

Adidas partners for this product with Zound Industries, known for also working with Marshall, in the hearing aid market.

Not just direct sunlight

In conversation with Digital Trends, Gustaf Rosell from Zound Industries assured that direct sunlight will not be the only source of energy in the Adidas RPT-02 SOL. These can receive energy in various ways. "Direct sunlight will be the strongest source of energy, but even indoor lighting or having it close to a window will generate power," he explained. For other cases, it will also be possible to charge them via USB-C.

Rosell explained, the RPT-02 SOL of Adidas has up to 80 hours of playback, which could be "eternal" if you get a good light source.
