Samsung reveals a surprise two weeks before the Galaxy Unpacked event

Samsung denied the news circulating about its intention to launch a new device in the “Galaxy Note” category this year. The head of the mobile communications division of Samsung Electronics, TM Roh, confirmed today, Tuesday, in a post on the company’s website, that Samsung will not release a new “Galaxy Note” device this year, and that the upcoming “Galaxy Z Fold 3” foldable device will support a stylus “S Pen”, two weeks before the upcoming “Galaxy Unpacked” event 2021.

The South Korean company also stated that it had created the first “S Pen” stylus designed specifically for foldable devices, but it did not reveal how it differs from the regular “S Pen” pen, and how it will work on the relatively smoother “Galaxy Z Fold 3” screen.

The company did not reveal whether the special “S Pen” stylus will contain “Bluetooth” technology, so we have to wait because the South Korean giant will reveal many details during the August 11 event.

Roh added that the third generation of foldable devices will open up amazing new capabilities for multitasking and enhance durability. Speaking about the Galaxy Z Flip 3, he said that the phone will have a more refined style, equipped with more durable and strong materials.

It's not just hardware, but Samsung is also focusing on software to improve the user experience. Roh says the company has worked with Google to enrich foldable ecosystems with popular apps and services.

On the other hand, Samsung confirmed that my Galaxy Z Fold 3 and foldable Z Flip 3 will receive an “IPx8” certification for water resistance, which means that it will still work even if submerged in waters deeper than one meter.

It's impressive that Samsung managed to make the foldable devices water-resistant in such a short time, however, dust resistance is still missing. It will likely be another year or two before Samsung can do something about it.

At the “Galaxy Unpacked” event scheduled for August 11, Samsung is expected to launch the “Galaxy Z Fold 3”, “Galaxy Z Flip 3”, “Galaxy Watch 4” series, “Galaxy Buds 2” headphones, and a stylus S Pen".

The upcoming foldable phones are also expected to be around $200 cheaper than their predecessor, as the company looks to make them more affordable.
