Sony sold 10 million PlayStation 5 consoles

Sony has now sold more than 10 million PlayStation 5 consoles. These numbers represent an increase in sales of 2 million consoles compared to the 7.8 million that the Japanese company revealed in April. Sales of PlayStation 5 reached 10 million eight months after the platform debuted on November 12.

This means that the PlayStation 5 continues to surpass the sales of the PlayStation 4, making it the fastest-selling console in Sony's history. The PlayStation 5 platform has strong sales. However, quantities for sale are still restricted and it is difficult to purchase a platform at the moment thanks to the global shortage of chips.

While the PlayStation 5 is reaching more households faster than any previous platform, Jim Ryan, President, and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment says, we still have a lot to do as PlayStation 5 demand continues to outpace supply. I want gamers to know that as we continue to face unique challenges around the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for Sony Interactive Entertainment.

The Japanese company also shared some highlights of the PlayStation 5 games. Spider-Man: Miles Morales has sold more than 6.5 million copies since its launch in November. While Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has sold more than 1.1 million copies since its launch last month. Returnal has also sold more than 560,000 copies since its launch in April.

While the Japanese company continues to share PlayStation sales figures. The US company has stopped sharing Xbox console sales figures since the Xbox One.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said, the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X are among the fastest-selling gaming consoles, with more platforms sold than any previous generation.

Daniel Ahmed, the Senior Analyst at Niko Partners, shared the estimates.

Twitter said Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X sales totaled 6.5 million as of June 30, 2021.

That's higher than the previous estimate of 5.7 million for the Xbox One. and 5 million for the Xbox 360 in the same time frame.
