DRAM makers revenue grows 26% in just the quarter

After DRAM prices returned to an upward trajectory in the first quarter, buyers have become more active in purchasing this type of semiconductor product, fearing further price increases and shortages. Demand has been robust in large segments such as notebooks and in niche ones, including graphics memory and consumer electronics memory. As a result, DRAM vendors significantly increased their shipments on a quarterly basis. At the same time, prices rose. This resulted in significant revenue growth. According to the estimates of the specialists of the analytical company TrendForce, the total revenue from the sale of DRAM in the second quarter of 2021 amounted to 24.1 billion US dollars, an increase of 26% compared to the previous quarter.

However, this situation did not last long. Already in the current quarter, manufacturers are faced with a mismatch in the levels of inventories of various components. Simply put, they stocked up on DRAM, but other components were the bottleneck. Laptop manufacturers immediately began to cut their DRAM purchases. While DRAM vendors are still optimistic, analysts say demand growth in certain market segments will slow as buyers have sufficient DRAM inventory. The average selling price of DRAM is already 3-8% lower than in the second quarter. However, in general, a certain growth will be recorded for the quarter.

The market leader in the second quarter is Samsung, which was able to increase sales by 30.2% compared to the first quarter, which led to an increase in its share from 42.0% to 43.6%. The second place is taken by SK Hynix, the third - by Micron. The indicators of these and three more companies are shown in the table:
