The fact that new graphics drivers often increase the performance of video cards in certain games is not a secret. But today we have the opportunity to assess the driver's impact on gaming performance over a five-year span.
For these purposes, the authors of the Testing Games channel took a GeForce GTX 1060 with 6 GB of memory and tested it in many games with three different drivers: GeForce Game Ready Driver 385.28 (2017), 431.60 (2019), and 471.68 (2021). You can see the results below.
As you can see, there is also a difference in favor of more recent drivers. It is not huge, but, firstly, almost always a more recent driver provides greater performance (in this test, PUBG became an exception), and secondly, in five years the increase can still be 5–20%.
