New Samsung Exynos SoCs are built with artificial Iitelligence

Samsung said new SoCs for smartphones and other devices are being built using artificial intelligence. Samsung is already using Synopsys' DSO.ai software to build the next-generation Exynos SoC.

Synopsys is one of the world's largest chip design software providers. The company's chairman said DSO.ai is the first commercial AI-based software for designing processors and SoCs.

It's worth noting, however, that Samsung will not trust artificial intelligence to do all of the work. Instead, the company will use reinforcement learning to automatically search for a design to find the best solution.

Reinforcement learning trains algorithms through rewards or penalties. DSO.ai learns to make optimal decisions with the help of a large data stream generated by the computer and finds more reliable design solutions in a shorter time during the learning process.

DSO.ai dramatically increases design speed and quality. Synopsys claims that the tool can in some cases increase chip frequency by 18%, reduce power consumption by 21%, and reduce development time from six months to one month.

At the same time, the software continues self-learning: the longer it works, the smarter it becomes. This means that DSO.ai will develop chips faster in the future.
