Tablet sales in Western Europe are up 18%

Experts from the analytical company Canalys published data for the second quarter of 2021 related to the Western European tablet market. According to their calculations, 7.9 million of these devices were sold during the reporting period.

“Tablets are no longer just entertainment devices, they have become a cheaper alternative to PCs for remote work and learning and are especially popular with students with basic needs,” explains Trang Pham, an analyst at Canalys.

The tablet market in Western Europe is dominated by Apple, which saw a 73% YoY increase in Q2 2021 as the Apple iPad Pro, powered by the Apple M1 processor, was well received by consumers. The second place was taken by Lenovo, which showed a record sales growth - by 87%. The Chinese manufacturer is said to have been able to quickly take advantage of the demand for tablets and have introduced a wide range of products, including cheaper models. Thus, Lenovo products filled the gap that Apple leaves by offering more expensive tablets of the iPad family. At the same time, other suppliers from the top five - Samsung, Huawei and Amazon - have reduced shipments.
