Why Canon, Sony and Fujifilm top camera sales?

Sales of professional cameras have begun to recover again since their decline in conjunction with the Covid-19 pandemic. Global market share data shows us that Sony, Canon, and Fujifilm dominate this market.

This information is published on the Japanese Nikkei, and Canon is still in the issue with a market share of 47.9%, and it achieved a growth of 2.5% compared to 2019. Sony came in second place with 22.1% of the market, but this percentage includes an estimated growth of 1. 5%.

Fujifilm comes in third place, capturing 5.6% of the market. It achieved a growth of 0.9% compared to 2019.

Canon tops camera sales

The leaderboard lacks the name of the major names in the field of cameras. Namely, Nikon. Which remained in second place until 2018. After that, the company suffered a drop of 4.9%, while Panasonic also disappeared from the list.

All this data goes back to 2020, the year in which camera sales suffered a 40% decline, but sales improved in 2021.

In July, the cameras saw a sales growth of 148.1% compared to the previous year. This is a very encouraging boost to the digital camera market in general.

So far, we can't know how each company's share of sales will be for 2021 since this data appears the following year, but there is no doubt that Sony and Canon will maintain their presence in the best-selling lists, but the positions may change.

Reasons for ascent

Canon and Sony have achieved the highest growth rate compared to other companies, and they also topped the sales as mentioned above. The reason behind this is the various versions that came out of the two companies in 2020.

Canon has updated most of its cameras in different price categories. While the Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 were launched in the same year, along with their lenses.

Sony has focused more on video cameras. Which helped her to achieve success in the year 2020, which saw a large number of people go to work online instead of the jobs they lost.

Sony has revealed cameras like the A7S III and the smaller Sony ZV-1 along with the A7C and more. While her other cameras continued to sell as well.

On the other hand, Canon announced its financial results for the first quarter of 2021 and revealed that its revenue from mirrorless camera sales has doubled compared to 2020.
