Apple Accused of Infringing Noise Cancellation Technology Patents

Jawbone Innovations LLC, the current owner of the patents for noise canceling technology that originally belonged to the bankrupt Jawbone, has filed lawsuits in the United States against Apple and others, alleging infringement of those patents.

Jawbone was considered a pioneer in the field of wearable devices but has ceded the market to Fitbit. Litigation between these companies drained Jawbone before they settled the dispute in 2017. As a result, Jawbone went bankrupt and sold off assets, and Fitbit was bought by Google earlier this year for $ 2.1 billion.

The lawsuits include eight patents for developments made by Jawbone in its early days when it contracted with DARPA to create noise suppression technologies for the US military.
