Canon's flagship mirrorless camera EOS R3 introduced

Canon today introduced the EOS R3 mirrorless camera. Despite the index in the name, which is lower than that of last year's R5 and R6 models, the novelty is the flagship model: with a 24-megapixel sensor and support for 6K video recording at 60 fps, it is more expensive than the EOS R5 with a 45-megapixel matrix and recording support video 8K. So, the EOS R3 is priced at $ 6,000, while the cost of the EOS R5 is $ 3,900 (if we consider the pricing in the US market).

Even though the EOS R3's sensor resolution is lower than that of the EOS R5, this model is fast and should do better in low light. Continuous shooting speed with the electronic shutter is 30 fps, with the mechanical shutter - 12 fps. The maximum value of light sensitivity is ISO 102,400. The camera allows you to record 10-bit 4K video without cropping at 120 fps in addition to its 6K video recording capabilities.

Canon says the EOS R3 uses deep learning technology to improve eye and person detection and the autofocus in general. Interestingly, the photographer can set the focus point using eye-tracking technology by simply looking at the 5.76 million-dot EVF area. All in all, the EOS R3 has 1,053 AF points.

Externally, the Canon EOS R3 is similar to the EOS-1D X Mark III, which occupies a similar position in the company's line of digital SLR cameras. The body of the novelty is made of a single piece of magnesium alloy, the novelty is at the level of EOS-1D cameras in terms of protection from water and dust. The EOS R3 is equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters, a USB-C port, two CFexpress and UHS-II SD storage slots. There is also a 3.2-inch movable screen.

Canon EOS R3 will go on sale in November. Along with the camera, the company also introduced a pair of inexpensive EOS R lenses: 16mm f / 2.8 for $ 300 and 100-400mm f / 5.6-8 for $ 650. Both should go on sale next month.
