Infineon CEO expects significant chip price increases

As previously reported, Infineon Technologies AG officially opened its 300mm wafer semiconductor plant on 17th Sep in Villach, Austria. The plant, worth 1.6 billion euros, has become one of the largest enterprises of its kind in Europe and one of the most modern in the world.

Speaking at a press conference on the plant's opening, Infineon CEO Reinhard Ploss said he expects chip prices to rise significantly.

"We expect a significant rise in prices," - the source quoted Ploss.

The head of Infineon added that semiconductor manufacturers will have to offset the cost of expanding production to meet growing demand.

At the same time, he assured that Infineon will not sell products to the highest bidder, but is going to fulfill its partnership obligations.

“We are a reliable partner when things go well and when things go wrong,” he said.
