Intel Z690 chipset captured in the photo

Live photos of Intel Alder Lake processors have repeatedly flashed on the Web, and now a live photo of the top chipset for them Intel Z690 has been published. It differs from the current Z590 both in shape and area.

If the Z590 is square, then the Z690 is rectangular (just like the Intel Core 12 processors themselves in the LGA1700), and its area is larger. It is not surprising, because motherboards based on the Z690 not only received support for DDR4 and DDR5 RAM but also differ in the abundance of PCIe 4 and PCIe 3 lines and an updated DMI 4 interface, through which the chipset interacts with the processor. The Z690 also supports up to six SATA drives and up to 40 USB devices of four different standards (USB 2.0, USB 3.2 Gen 1x1, USB 3.2 Gen 2x1, and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2).

This photo of the chipset was published by one of the users of the thematic Chinese forum Chiphell - engineering samples of motherboards based on Z690 have been sold in China for about a month, and the chipset with the photo is probably the main one of them. The official premiere of the Z690 will take place simultaneously with CPU Alder Lake on October 27, and sales will start almost a month later - on November 19.
