Microsoft announces Surface Slim Pen 2

Microsoft has updated its slim stylus to fit a keyboard that magnetically fits into the Surface Pro 8 keyboard. Notably, the Surface Slim Pen 2 has a custom chip called the Microsoft G6 and a haptic function that aims to make writing and drawing more realistic.

The stylus can work with Surface Pro 8, Surface Go 3, Surface Pro X, and Surface Duo 2 products via its own stylus cap. And it can be attached magnetically alongside the new Surface Laptop Studio. The company says it is expanding the touch technology to work in many applications and offered the pen used in Adobe Photoshop. And the artist claimed that its sharper tip made it easier to use and more responsive.

Microsoft explains that the Surface Slim Pen 2 offers increased resolution and greater shading. The most notable new feature of the $129.99 Surface Slim Pen 2 is the haptic functionality that aims to make writing and drawing more realistic. Additionally, the device feature can send haptic cues when using gestures in supported apps.

In Microsoft Word, for example, you feel the vibration when you scribble a word to delete it, or when you circle text to select or highlight it. This smart touch feature works across select devices, including the Surface Pro 8 and Surface Laptop Studio running Windows 11.
