Microsoft today unveiled the second generation of its Surface Duo Android smartphone. The novelty was supposed to eliminate all the weak points of its predecessor, of which there were many, but the folding form factor was preserved. Surface Duo 2 was immediately recorded as a competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, but still, these are different devices, albeit foldable: the Galaxy Z Fold3 has a small screen on the outside, and a large flexible inside, the Surface Duo 2 also has two displays, but both are inside.
The Surface Duo 2 screens are 5.8-inch AMOLED matrices with a resolution of 1892 x 1344 pixels with a frame rate of 90 Hz, when unfolded, an 8.3-inch screen with a 2688 x 1892 pixel resolution is formed. The maximum brightness reaches 800 cd / m2, and the displays are protected by durable tempered Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
On the inside, the screens are slightly curved - and this area at the junction of the two halves is used to display the time and various kinds of notifications. Any way out in the absence of an external display.
The new Surface Duo 2 is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of flash storage. The OS is Android 11 out of the box.
The camera is represented by three modules. It mainly uses a 12MP sensor and an F / 1.7 aperture lens. Additional modules - with sensors with a resolution of 12 and 16 megapixels. The first uses an F / 2.4 telephoto lens, the second uses an F / 2.2 wide-angle lens. The camera can record 4K video at 60 fps and Full HD at 240 fps.
Surface Duo 2 works with Surface Slim Pen 2 with a magnetic mount. The smartphone has a rechargeable battery with a capacity of 4450 mAh with support for 23 W charging. True, there is no charger included.
The dimensions of the new item in the open state are 145.2 x 184.5 x 5.5 mm, in the closed state - 145.2 x 92.1 x 11 mm, the weight is 284 grams. The Surface Duo 2 is not a cheap smartphone at all: they ask for $ 1,500 for it. Pre-orders for the new product in the US are accepted from today.
