The latest rating of the leaders in the market of SoC systems for smartphones

MediaTek, which led the smartphone SoC market in the third quarter of last year, ahead of Qualcomm, holds the lead for the fourth straight quarter.

Counterpointresearch analysts report that the Taiwanese chipmaker continued to lead the mobile SoC market with a 38% share in the second quarter of 2021.

Experts point out that the Dimensity 700 mobile platform dominated the 5G device segment, while the Helio P35 and Helio G80 SoCs were the most popular for 4G smartphones. The second quarter of this year was one of the most successful for MediaTek.

Qualcomm came in second with 32% of the market. The company increased its share compared to the first quarter of this year, in part due to the decrease in the shares of HiSilicon, Samsung and Apple. The top three also includes Apple, which occupies 15% of the market: this is 2% more than a year earlier, but 2% less than in the first quarter of 2021.

Samsung's position has been steadily deteriorating for the sixth quarter in a row: if at the end of the first quarter of 2020, the company's share was 14%, then in the second quarter it dropped to 7%. Samsung has started to invest heavily in manufacturing and has set itself the goal of becoming the largest chip maker in the market by 2030. But for now, this is all in the distant future.

Unisoc holds 5% of the market, as in the previous year. HiSilicon at the end of the second quarter of 2021 took only 3%, whereas a year earlier its share was five times more.
