European wearable device market continues to grow strongly in Q2 2021

In the second quarter of 2021, 21.2 million wearable electronic devices were shipped to the European market. The market grew by 28.5% compared to the same period in 2020. This is an impressive figure, but it is still lower than in the previous quarter when growth was 33%. The quarterly results are presented in the report prepared by the specialists of the analytical company IDC.

Continued supply chain disruptions did not stop the wearable device market in Western Europe from growing 24.6% YoY. At the same time, shipments of wearable devices with basic functionality, including headphones and smart glasses, increased by 21.2%, while shipments of smart wearable devices - by 39.7%. Analysts clarify that the latter category includes almost only smartwatches.

The market leadership is consistently held by Apple. Over the year, it managed to increase shipments by 29.5%, which was enough for Apple's share to grow from 35.0% to 35.2%.

The second place is taken by Xiaomi. The Chinese giant increased shipments by 53.7%, so that its share rose from 12.2% to 14.6%.

Next comes Samsung. The South Korean manufacturer increased shipments by 71.5%, which is the largest figure in the top five. Samsung's share for the year increased from 5.9% to 7.9%.

The fourth place is taken by Huawei, which increased shipments by only 17.3%. Its share decreased from 8.2% to 7.5%.

JBL is in fifth place. It is the only manufacturer in the top five to cut supplies. The decrease in annual terms was 13.2%, which resulted in a decrease in the share of JBL from 7.5% to 5.0%.
