German security agency checks Xiaomi smartphone

The German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is conducting a technical certification of a smartphone manufactured by the Chinese company Xiaomi. This was reported by Reuters, citing the words of a spokesman for the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The spokesman did not provide details on what kind of verification the agency is conducting.

Earlier, the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense advised users to avoid buying Chinese phones and urged them to throw away existing ones, justifying this by the fact that Xiaomi flagship phones supposedly have a built-in ability to detect and censor phrases such as "Free Tibet", "Long live the independence of Taiwan", the movement for democracy", etc.

The Chinese manufacturer immediately commented on the accusation, assuring that its devices do not censor messages sent by users or the text they enter. Moreover, Xiaomi said on Monday that it had hired independent security experts to verify and assess the allegations of the Lithuanian Defense Ministry.
