Virtual reality market to surpass $ 56 billion by 2026

According to experts from the analytical company ABI Research, 2020 has seriously accelerated the development of the virtual reality (VR) market, and this influence will continue in 2021. Consumer interest in VR has skyrocketed as the bubble created around location-based virtual reality, which once made up a significant portion of the entire VR market, has burst. Interest in using VR in gaming machines and other entertainment is slowly returning, while home use remains a stable growth area, especially in virtual reality games.

Analysts predict robust growth in both enterprise and consumer virtual reality segments over the next five years, at an annual average of 42%. If this forecast comes true, 50.1 million VR headsets will be shipped in 2026, and the revenue of the entire VR market will exceed $ 56 billion.

Standalone headsets will account for nearly 80% of total shipments in 2026, up from 44% in 2021. Analysts cite the Oculus Quest 2 as a successful example of this category. Wired headsets will primarily target high-end PC applications. At the same time, the simplest solutions, which are smartphone mounts, are likely to disappear completely from the market. When it comes to software and content, consumer VR is still primarily focused on games.
