Three quarterly report on the state of mobile phone security in China

China Mobile Security Report released by China Academy of Information and Communications Technology and 360 launched three quarterly reports. The report shows that in the third quarter of 2021, 329 valid fraud applications were received, involving a total amount of 5.416 million yuan and a per capita loss of 16,463 yuan.

Among them, male victims accounted for 59.9%, nearly 20% higher than female victims. However, in terms of monetary losses, the per capita loss for men was 16,417 yuan, slightly lower than 115 yuan for women. The industrialization and organization of fraud are becoming more and more obvious, and fraud technology is constantly iteratively improving, which brings severe challenges to digital security.

Judging from the age of deceived netizens, post-90s have the most deceived people, accounting for 38.9%, post-00s deceived 30.4%, post-80s deceived 23.4%, and post-70s deceived people have the highest per capita loss.

According to expert analysis, task-based online prostitution fraud occurred in the third quarter. Due to newer fraud methods and clear target users, the proportion of people born in the 1990s being deceived has increased, while those born in the 70s have certain financial resources, and their awareness of cybersecurity is relatively indifferent. There are limited channels of fraud-related knowledge, so it is difficult to identify phishing text messages and URLs, and bank card funds are more likely to be stolen.

In the third quarter of 2021, making friends and false part-time jobs in mobile phone fraud are still high-risk types of fraud; financial management, identity impersonation, and gambling are middle-risk types of fraud. Among them, the total amount of dating fraud is as high as 1.997 million yuan, and false part-time frauds are involved. The total amount reached 1.549 million yuan, ranking third in the financial management category, and the total amount involved was 911,000 yuan.
