Samsung Display’s OLED notebook panel shipments in 2021 are expected to reach 4.7 million

Omdia released a report today that in 2021, the shipment of OLED notebook panels provided by Samsung Display alone is expected to reach 4.7 million, a significant year-on-year increase of 395% .

According to the report, Samsung Display will begin production of its mainstream FHD OLED panels in the second quarter of 2021. This year, the number of OLED notebook panels shipped to its strategic partner Asustek has surged, especially the 13.3 and 15.6-inch FHD OLED products.

Omdia said that Samsung Display has formulated an aggressive business plan for 2022, which is to ship 9 million OLED notebook panels. The company plans to introduce more models with a 16:10 aspect ratio to the market in 2022. For example, 14.5-inch 2880×1800 and 15.6-inch 2560×1440 with high frame rate are used for games and high-end PCs.

The report also pointed out that other panel manufacturers are focusing on the development of foldable OLED notebook panels , rather than rigid panels, because the foldable concept can change the shape of traditional notebooks. However, as the foldable notebook market is still in its early stages, it is expected that shipments of foldable notebook panels in 2022 will remain small.
