Virgin Media O2 announced that all broadband networks have completed a gigabit upgrade

British telecommunications operator Virgin Media O2 announced that its entire broadband network can now use gigabit speeds. Specifically, Virgin Media O2's broadband network allows a download speed of 1130 Mbps, which is approximately 22 times the average speed of the UK.

According to the company, the upgrade took about two years and achieved government goals four years ahead of schedule, consolidating the company's position as the largest gigabit network provider in the UK.

Virgin Media O2 has not stopped. Recently, the company conducted a trial and demonstrated the use of existing networks and related technologies to provide homes with a network speed of 2.2 Gbps. This may mean that customers will get further speed improvements in the future without requiring additional changes to the infrastructure.

In the long run, Virgin Media O2 said it will upgrade its fixed network to all-fiber-to-the-home (FTTP), which is expected to be completed in 2028 and will achieve asymmetrical 10 Gbps download and upload speed.
