Zhan Rui's global smartphone chip market share exceeded 10% for the first time in the third quarter

According to a report released by Counterpoint, in the third quarter of 2021, global smartphone AP (application processor)/SoC (system-on-chip) shipments increased by 6% year on year. Among them, 5G smartphone SoC shipments increased nearly 2 times year-on-year.

In terms of various brands, in the third quarter of 2021, MediaTek led the smartphone SoC market with a 40% share. This is mainly due to the competitive low-end 5G SoC and the high-demand mid-to-high-end 4G SoC.

Qualcomm ranks second with 27% market share, but dominates 5G baseband modem shipments, with a market share of 62%. With the update of the Snapdragon series of chips, Qualcomm is expected to gain a greater market share in the fourth quarter.

In the third quarter of 2021, Apple remained third in the smartphone SoC market, with a market share of 15%. With the launch of the iPhone 13 and holidays, Apple's market share will also grow further. But the shortage of chips will affect its sales during the holiday season.

According to Counterpoint analyst Parv Sharma, the main change in market share this quarter came from Zhan Rui's strong penetration of the 4G SoC market. Zhanrui’s shipments have grown for three consecutive quarters, and its market share exceeded 10% for the first time this quarter. At the same time, Zhan Rui successfully expanded its brand customer base. In addition to Honor, Realme, Motorola, ZTE, Transsion, etc., Zhanrui products have also entered Samsung Galaxy A series products.

In addition, Samsung Exynos slipped to fifth place with a 5% share because it is re-adjusting its strategy of purchasing and outsourcing smartphones from Chinese ODM manufacturers. However, HiSilicon is still affected by the US trade ban and is unable to manufacture Kirin chips, and its inventory is nearly exhausted.
